Gratitude.
For the parents who spend countless hours learning, researching, trying, failing, trying again… not because they have to, but because their child deserves ease. Because their child deserves to experience the world in a way that works for them.
Gratitude for their vulnerability, their love, their fierce advocacy, and their relentless resilience.
Gratitude for the teachers — classroom staff, support staff, paraeducators, specialists, therapists — the individuals who give not only their time, but their intention, strategy, organization, creativity, and compassion to help our children succeed. The ones who quietly plan 10 steps ahead so a child can take 1 successful step forward.
Gratitude for the stranger at Target or in the grocery store who chooses kindness instead of judgement when a child is overwhelmed, rigid, literal, dysregulated, loud, or simply different.
Gratitude for the ones who see the humanity first — not the behavior.
Gratitude for those that transport our kids: the bus drivers, the van drivers, the parents, grandparents, babysitters, neighbors, siblings — the community that drives them to therapies, school, practice, rehearsals, rec center events, social groups, playdates, movement, and adventure.
Gratitude for the friends who include, support, encourage, invite, and protect. For the adult friends who support the parent so the parent can keep choosing love in the hard moments, the tired moments, the “I don’t know what to do next” moments.
It truly takes a village to support and raise neurodivergent children.
Each child is a unique gift.
Each child is a blessing to this world.
And gratitude is the language that keeps us all connected in the work, in the learning, and in the love.
